Be careful what you ask for

I only got paid for one load with $15 extra stop pay. Also, had I gotten a return trip, it would have only paid half - thats right, I said half. This company only pays 50% for return trips. Is that normal for expeditors?

Be careful what you ask for

Sounds like you did what you thought was best. Your carrier never should of offered you that load as a single driver! That is probably why there was "NO" load for you. They realized what they asked you to do was totally illegal. Maybe we don't want to know who your carrier is! Better stay local...

Be careful what you ask for

I don't really want to slam this Toledo Oh. co. They have some 25 or 30 trucks and I really do like them. I just never been through anything like it and am not sure if there was anything else I could've done. At least where I am now (at home) I know there will be a chance of getting a run...

Be careful what you ask for

I considered that but I just took a 3+ month vacation and was depending on making $$, not spending them in high rent Ca. One things for sure, I agree that I will never take another load out west again.

Be careful what you ask for

I was in Nashville Tn. waiting about a day for a load. I called dispatch a few times bugging them to get me a run, any run - and here is my story. The gave me a HOT run: pick up near Louisville Ky. and drop off in San Diego Ca. WOW AWESOME! On my way to the p/u, they called with additional stop...

    From dispatcher to driver?...

Don't forget, "the grass is always greener....." - it just might apply in this instance. I assume you're looking to get a CDL class "A" so that you can drive a semi with a 53' trailer. If so, forget the $$$ they pay during training and look at the starting $$ per mile, insurance package...

    laptop and gps

Not sure what all you plan to do with the laptop but I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 for the last year already and its still good as new. My friends have different laptops that all work just fine after more than a year - we all keep them in their travel bag while driving though. If you properly...

    Average Pay Rate ?

For what its worth (because I am not sure how to confirm it) but the story I get is.............At the upper end of the scale for experienced/dependable drivers is 40% of total $ paid to the truck - **including fuel surcharge - if the owner buys the fuel, 60% if you buy the fuel. That is the...

    Dedicated Expedite?

Hmm, well I guess I'm glad then - but I was also kinda hoping that there would be more opportunities in expediting like this, once this one ended. I just talked to my dispatcher a few minutes ago and he tells me that this run is scheduled for me for another 5 or 6 weeks - or until someone...

    Dedicated Expedite?

Hi all, I've landed what I think might be one great run but would like to know how typical this is in expediting. Dedicated runs in OTR are pretty common. The shipper where I pick up my load is about 30 min. from home, I run about 550 miles to consignee, 12 hrs later the same place I dropped my...

CHANGE OF CAREER OR MID LIFE CRISIS?

As one who was forced out of my field of engineering after 20+ years and took up trucking for the last 2 years, I can say that Ateam and Davekc gave great advice. A few questions for you that might allow some folks to calm your curiosity about expediting for a living....Unless your livelyhood...

    Someone PLEASE call me ignorant....

Well, it is a big step to leave a lucrative career under any circustances - but when the outlook is so bleak in said career that one has to "step down" to this industry - well, I can bet the action will take place once he has experienced what this industry has to offer - at which time, he will...

Personally, I just cannot see me selling cars - or selling anything for a living - I delt with too many salesmen in my engineering career and don't much care for the thought of people running from me when they see me coming :P But there is money in sales for sure - thats just not for me. I...

    Someone PLEASE call me ignorant....

The thing is, whether or not we will have to compete with foreign drivers - at that point will be a mute point. The reason being that at least there will be a driving job - in the drafting industry, the jobs are non-existant anymore. Theres no way to even lower your salary to compete when they...
