    O/O revenue and drivers pay

davekc, another excellent post! I am trying to get back to the $1300 neighborhood per week gross paycheck that I grew accustomed to solo in a semi, tack on another $300 to $700 for when I was teaming - not including bonuses. I am willing to bust my chops to make the money I am looking for -...

    O/O revenue and drivers pay

So you want the owner to pay the truck payment, insurnace, maintenance, fuel, repairs, and the various other things and still ppay you 40% of what he makes? I think you're dreaming. I paid my OTR driver 25% of the trucks gross and still didn't make it. Sorry I think thats a fantasy figure. You...

    O/O revenue and drivers pay

I mean 40% of the total gross, owner pays for the fuel and max out in the 55% neighborhood with the owner still paying for the fuel. Like I said, I am no O/O, but what is a "good" driver worth? How much does the owner need to make off a "good" driver? Again, I really do not know what each O/O...

    O/O revenue and drivers pay

Tennesseahawk, Very easy to say that O/Os should give drivers health benefits. Truth of the matter is, the drivers don't work for the O/Os... they are their own small business. Health benefits are for employees, unless you get medicare or pay for your own. I am not saying that O/Os should give...

    O/O revenue and drivers pay

I think the wage itself depends on whatever agreement can be reached, and determined to be fair between driver and owner. I agree that 60/40 has all the markings of becoming a thing of the past, but I hesitate to state actual figures for the simple reason that everyone's idea of "fair" varies...

    O/O revenue and drivers pay

And secondly, for drivers, what kind of revenue is expected in order for survival or to keep you in the profession. As a driver, not an O/O (yet), there are a few additional points worthy of discussion on this topic. Money is, in my opinion, primary concern. First, of course, is my pay. In my...

    Proper use of brakes

Good topic! I have seen trucks have to make an emergency stop on the shoulder with smoke billowing from the brakes - never safe and always happens because of one reason - riding the brakes because they are trying to run too fast down a mountain grade. Another point to consider on this subject...

How well do you sleep going down the road.

When I used to train new drivers, the first two or three days they had one heck of a time sleeping while rolling - the reason was simple.....they just were not tired enough.:)

Percentage of miles driven at night.

Solo D truck. I do about 85% - 90% night driving and consider myself fortunate when I get to run during the daylight hours. Seems that usually, the first shift at the most of the factorys I've picked up at actually produces the freight and has it ready for shipping just before quitting time...

Fuel cards, and tips or tricks of the trade.

I wonder why you cannot use your bank card like you would use a charge card and just give them your card when you go to pay for the purchases like I do. I have a visa ATM check card and have had NoProblem using it like a credit card anywhere in the country - theres never a fee or interest...

Be careful what you ask for

I'm not trying to inform anyone of anything - except maybe indirectly "don't do what I did". Its me who is looking for information. Like I said, I was hoping to find out what others would have done in a similar situation. I was actually kinda hoping that there was some resource out there, other...

Be careful what you ask for

Its not that they expected me to run illegal, it was my choice and I fully accepted the run on my own - there is no forced dispatch with these folks and in all honesty, I really do like them and they will not ever force anyone to take any load. Truth be known, I only ran slightly harder on this...

Be careful what you ask for

I did check the internet boards, so did my company - there just wasn't any freight AFAIK. I guess I should clarify that my company did try to locate some freight for me, I was kinda hoping that perhaps someone might post a particular source of freight that (I thought) other expediters use...

Be careful what you ask for

It actually took me about 55 hrs from time I started till I delivered, I did take a few good naps along the way, so I did not go straight thru, plus I needed to get a new head light and stopped off at a few Walmarts along the way (I was not about to spend $20 per head light at a truck stop when...

Expediting for the most part stops at the Mississippi river, as most folks know. I sure have an extremely clear understanding of that now! btw, you should have seen the looks my truck was getting - especially from the a lot of the Mexican drivers out there - ssems they were drooling over it! Its not Try Hours. I actually did get a log book violation in Ca. a few years back - $600 for "incomplete log book" so I agree, it was not the smartest move on my part. I also learned from that fine - I got DOT'd in Ca. this time too - but NoProblem this time. I'll still never do that again!
