    TRANSIT WOES

@54k I got nothing here, cept a heap more worries now. Alas forewarned is forearmed, truly a thread I will re read several times. Valuable information throughout. Bailed on a high maintenance sprinter in February. Despite queezy stomach from reading all this I feel costs will be much less...

    Where were you in 1999?

Agreed! Read each one. I was in college killing a perfectly good G.I. bill benefit. I remember going to my pre-calc professor, complaining about something. He laughed so hard he fell off his stool. He said he didn't think it possible .... declared I had a crush, asked who? I said I dunno...

The latest new Load One custom

Reading through this thread is something else. While it's too wide & long for me, I still see potential. Just from the longer wheel base chassis use if nothing else. I'm not gonna debate the bits & pieces (regs, ethics, etc.) as I suspect the builder is not a fool (due diligence an all). Damn...

    end of year is near

Oh lord bless me with this dilemma at least 1 year b4 I cash in my shower ticket in the big truck stop in the sky. Sigh! Wait a minute ???? noisy trucks forever idling. Vapor trails of blue (or black)smoke streaking the sky. Shadows @ night of lumbering rotund creatures between vehicles. Loud...

Best Cargo Van for New Owner/Operator

The heart wants what the heart wants, could lead to heart ache though. Long & tall are the words of the day out here. If the load request says sprinter, they could send tall transit or tall promaster. Companies know if they send a short van they loose not just that load but future potential...

Cargo Van Time for a high top

Actually it is very necessary (to some). MPG, braking, handling are all effected by where the load sits in the vehicle. How hard the drive line works to move the vehicle (wear & tear). Poorly loaded vehicles impact driver comfort as well (fatigue). Books and manuals published in the name of...

    Class B Question

I like the "T&R" response. He he he In a participation trophy world this is not sensitive & p.c. but I like it. Cause it's so valid. Creativity & hustle. Problem solving is a lost art. Should the individual leap this small hurdle and come out here. Only one day to wake up in a field of...

How's It Going @ FedEx Custom Critical?

And so she staggers into the full light of day. Not a soul says a word about fxcc yet here we are. As a late post I'm sure you already can tell that "it depends". Ya gotta learn the system. For you in T.T they are desperate for. But you'll never hear them say so. White glove is better & as...

Cargo Van Time for a high top

I like the air tabs too. Had em on the sprinter, now on the transit. Seems they did more for the sprinter though. Straddling the axle is not the ideal. Load van like a trailer "between the wheels". I.e. front wheels are the kingpin, back wheels are the tandems......balance !

Expediter Cargo Vans May See An Increase...

I'll believe it when I see it, anything else is speculation. The nature of the beast (see example) depicts the reality. "It's an expedite load"! To who?? The broker? I'm able to 3000 yet only willing to 2500 (don't like going over 2250) (or more than 2 skids for that matter) and on t-day to...

Should I buy 2 or 4 winter tires?

"P" is not a rating, it's a type of tire. As in p-metric. Not for what we do. Gotta be an LT tire, load range E (as in 10ply). Fwd implies promaster which are lt225/75/16 (I believe, I could be wrong).

traded in my 2014 diesel for a 2018 gas

Yep I get this, traded my sprinter in for a transit gas. With the sprinter it was always something..... every 2 months. Figured out the repairs for 15 & 16 I could have bought the transit cash with money to spare. I've heard for years "500,000 miles" then trade. That might have worked with...

The latest new Load One custom

I could see that, though alittle shorter @ 4 skids. With the 3.5 as well, the overhang seems excessive (load balance). Add airtabs & sumo springs might sound additions. Good idea though, decently thought out. 1st one I've seen, will look forward to performance updates and look for others to...

    being semiretired

T270_d's got the right of it. If weren't for the deductions there'd be no point to this at all. I remember day dreaming when young of retiring & living in an RV. Poof !!!!!! here I are, poor man's RV & no amenities. Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.

Did you leave a good paying job to get into this business?

Can't add anything intelligent to what's already been said. Thus: For some (1) it's an escape & evade maneuver. Tired of all the crap that nest of vermin called humanity evoke in daily 9-5 work. Human contact minimal, no social or family obligations, body parts not broken or wore out...

    Question about Van refrigeration

I doubt it require heavy refrigeration for flowers, pretty much just cooling yes? The problem with that is in a van the reefer will require the engine be constantly running. Plan to get real acquainted with your dealer for "forced regens". As the DPF will clog up constantly with this.

20' Box Truck no lift and not dock high...HELP

How far off from dock height is it? Look under the truck where the box joins the frame, look for a 2x4 or 4x4 between box rails & frame rails. Probably not there. Seek out dock high straight and compare theirs to yours. Loosen the box bolts (big U bolts) jack up box insert appropriate boards...

    Chain laws. Newbie question.

From an insurance perspective it's not cost effective. I've chained up through both the Donner & Sisque once to prove a lame point that I could. Growing up in Alaska we did not use them. None of that matters when you crash, they all ask why you were doing un-safe driving. Which makes you...

My cot's feelings are hurt here. I sleep on an army cot, in fact it's older than some of the women I've slept on. Had it since 1981 (more faithful than them females too). Been with me all over the world, never complains & reasonably comfortable. Little stretched in the canvas but the joints...
