That's because courier work is a pretty crappy job. To make any money you have to work at least 10 if not 12 hours a day. And that's if you're content making $500 a week after expenses. Then not to mention you put a ton of wear and tear on your vehicle and don't have health insurance...
I'm just wondering which is more economical to run in the long term, a new diesel Sprinter or a gas Ford E Series. Sure the Sprinter get's better fuel economy BUT diesel is more expensive per gallon and you're also buying DEF. Then not to mention the more expensive parts when something breaks....
I have no experience expediting that's why I wanted to ask you guys/gals about your work. Anyways, what does everyone think of a very light load <100lbs going 390 miles for $400. Good rate or no?
And your point is? I'm also on the largest trucker's forum and believe it or not we have people who aren't truckers! I have an opinion on what I prefer to drive based on previous experiences. So far I haven't seen you give anyone useful advice (Uship?), oh I think I get it, you're the forum...
LOL
You can say that again. The other week I was at a usual shipper and another courier in a big white fancy Sprinter pulls in so we get to chatting. He said he's struggling and his van just threw a check engine light. He took it to the MB dealer and they wanted $2,800 to go through the whole...
So realistically how much can a class 6 straight truck bring in a week? Do you need a lift in back, I would think not since the trucks are dock high. Also what are the usual age limits these companies like Panther or Load 1 have for straight trucks? Finally how do you "expedite" when you're...
Every GM product I have ever owned was a complete piece of crap, so I'm speaking from experience and would never own one again.
I don't know about your particular van but I'm on the biggest Ford truck forum and it's well known fact there that the latest E van had a revised front suspension...
GM has the worse build quality and reliability. There was a guy who got a million miles out of an E Series van, trying getting that out of a GM lemon. The latest E Series fixed the poor handling of the earlier models. It will be interesting how the new little V6 gas and inline 5 diesels will...
Yes but with the straight trucks you're dealing with all the same bullsht as with a big rig. CDL, medical card, log books, scales, DOT inspections, IFTA etc. That's the reason cargo van expediting interested me, to avoid all that hassle.
What was so "old and crappy" about the E series? They were built well and had body on frame construction. Their ruggedness couldn't be beat. The latest E350 had a payload capacity of what 4,000 pounds? It will be interesting to see the new Transit handle that or daily contractor abuse.
LOL Losing your shirt to best case scenerio $30k does not sound very good. That's around what I make now doing courier work and being home each night. Why do you people stay in this business if it's so ****ty?
