Cargo Van Need opinions on van replacement

This is rather off topic but from what I read on this forum before is that OTR van expediting pays paltry wages. So how do some of you afford new $45k vans? Right now as a city courier I make $600-$700 a week after expenses. How much better or worse could I do driving OTR for a company like Bolt?

Cargo Van Need opinions on van replacement

Do you OTR guys find the limited height of the Ford or Chevy vans ever limits what you can haul? I was looking at an 06 E350 with 165k for $4,000. Passed on it because it needed at least $1,500 worth of work.

    Sprinter questions

Indeed, I was thinking of the Ford Econoline where the 150 could generally haul 1,500 lbs, the 250 2500 lbs, etc. I'm just trying figure out what he meant by one ton van?

You said it was a "one ton van" so wouldn't that mean it could only haul 2,000 lbs?

Cargo Van Need opinions on van replacement

OP, if your van still runs good and is in decent shape why not keep it? Why take on a payment? I am running a 1995 model van. Xiggi, why do you like the Promaster over the Sprinter?

I need to haul at least 3,000 lbs so a one ton truck won't help me.

    Sprinter questions

Anyways, I decided to look for a late model Ford E350 extended. They just seem like a better value for the money. Does anyone know a good place to find such a van? I looked on ebay, craigslist, and autotrader and can't find anything. Most of these vans are speced for contractor use, beat up, or...

That's a bummer. Takes away all practicality from the van.

    Sprinter questions

Does anyone the clearance between the wheel arches on a dually Sprinter? Is it enough to get a standard 40x48 pallet past, both straight and sideways? Also what are the running costs with a late model Sprinter which requires DEF compared to a gasoline Ford E350?

    Help

If it were me I'd look for a local class B job where you're paid on W-2 and home each night or at least every other night.

    Goodbye FedEx (again)

Wow that is ridiculous. He could buy an older van and be a city courier and he'd still make a lot more than $250 a week. Not to mention sleep in his own bed each night.

    Goodbye FedEx (again)

Were they happy making $250 a week? And here I though I make little.

Are people making a profit after taking out for taxes?

It isn't about me but IRS rules which are a fact. Did you know that if you don't own the vehicle and the company pays for the fuel and dictates your activity you are an employee and need to be paid on W-2? The IRS is very clear on this. This topic has been beat to death on The Trucker's Report...

Are people making a profit after taking out for taxes?

If you are driving somebody's truck you shouldn't be on 1099.
