    Sacrifices for a Son

About a week ago in a reply to another thread I shared that we would be spending our Thanksgiving at Lackland AFB attending our youngest son's graduation. Well in this un-stable economy and hit and miss freight so many have been experiencing lately, to be directional is not a good choice, or is...

    Hurry, expedite this!

We were recently on a load to Chicago's Ohare Airport when we got a call to stop in Indianapolis and wait at the airport while a Winglet was removed from a jet, crated and loaded onto our deck and rushed to a jet sitting at Chicago's Midway Airport. Since the jet in Indy was down for...

    Setting the record straight

Disclaimer: The following thread is in no way intended to provoke anyone on this forum. It is to set the record straight. When I replied to a recent thread on EO I spoke in a negative way regarding my past carrier. A member on this forum appearantly felt that my memories of actions this...

    Caught in a war zone!

We're hanging out in our usual spot at the end of the Miami International Airport's runway with our fellow Aviation haulers. It sounds like a war zone out there! If I didn't know better I would think we are in the middle of a Miami gang war. There is constant gun fire all around us! Air...

    It is:

I asked "What is it?" in an earlier thread. Here is the answer: It is an engine off of a C-130 Hercules Cargo Plane. The cement mixer looking thing is actually the turbine mounted in a service stand. The engine is mounted to the plane at the back of the engine where the exhaust tube comes...

    What is it?

OK folks, our freight tends to draw a lot of attention. Afterall, its out in the open for all to see with the exception of being wrapped in a protective tarp. Many people will snap photos as they drive past us or will come up and ask "what is that?" when we are parked. So, what is the first...

    Where have they gone?

I can't help but notice that in the last few months it would appear that the number of FECC T/Ts running across I-10, I-20, and I-40 from coast to coast has decreased. We run these routes weekly and see very few FECCs along the way like we used to. We also haven't seen any FECC large sleeper...

    Watch that cash advance!

Yesterday I stopped to fuel and get a $50.00 cash advance at the Flying J in Midway,FL. What should have been a quick fuel stop and a simple transaction quickly became a nightmare! Once I shut the pump off the cashier (a new employee) attached my ticket along with my cash to the receipt...

    Dealing with Fear of Heights

Back in my FECC days the tallest things I ever had to wrap were computer mainframes. They might occassionally go about 7' tall. Most of the time my feet never left the ground. Thank God, cause I had a "fear of heights". But now that has changed since our recent carreer change! I had to look...

    Dealing with rush hour traffic!

So, how do you deal with rush hour traffic? Do you hate it like most, or do you find a way to "enjoy" it? You know the story: You're on a hot run that the customer wanted yesterday. Not your fault that the product wasn't ready when it was supposed to be. So after hours of patiently waiting...

Great financial Report/ Plus Cool Pics

Most people like myself do not like change, especially when it entails changing employers or carreers for that matter. As I've shared on this forum we recently did just that. It was a decision made after much agonizing over our cost of operation and frustration with our prior carrier. Rather...

    Up close and personal!

From my days with FECC I know that many of you van and straight truck drivers have had the pleasure of picking up or delivering to an awaiting aircraft at an airport. But how often do you see a T/T, especially one almost 80' long like ours doing the same? We do so on almost a daily basis with...

    Walking amongst the snakes!

Recently we picked up a jet engine in Arizona at whats called "The Bone Yard". This is where jetliners go to die and become donors! Once all that can be salvaged is stripped off of the jet the rest is usually cut up, shredded and recycled. We had been warned about what to expect out there in...

Canada Not Legal in Canada leased on!

In the thread "Understanding the load opportunity", Ateam refers to an O/O getting Canadian load offers ( which happened regularly) when his (my) T/T was not legal in Canada, according to Canada's maximum wheelbase length and overall length laws. That is correct. In fact, the Canadian load...

Its Bingo night at the J

Thats right! Its bingo night at the Flying J in Columbia,SC. You can sit down to dinner in the restaurant and play bingo in the dining room while you eat! If you win you can get free steak dinners, free buffets, a pizza, and more. They are doing this every Saturday beginning at 16:30 hrs...

    Freedom of Speach?

Recently we have seen shirts and jackets with Police, Sheriff, FBI, CSI, Security, etc availible for purchase in truckstops. They have been availible in certains stores for quite some time. Some even closely resemble what would be seen on official law enforcement personnel. Also other items such...

    Expediters or not?

Recently I had the pleasure of having the drivers of a "D" sized unit tell me that since I am no longer leased to FDCC I'm no longer considered an "Expediter". Futhermore, I was told that if my carrier was not listed on EO's website then they are not in the expedite business. I won't mention...

    TA improves another travel center

We left a perfectly good parking space at Donna's T/P in Marysville,WA Sunday morning to relocate to the TA in North Bend,WA. We needed to do laundry and since Donna's had none we knew we could count on TA, afterall we've done laundry there back when it was the Seattle East T/P and even after TA...

    Still hauling FedEx Freight

We may have recently left FDCC to go into a new area of expedited freight but that does'nt mean we don't still get to haull freight for FedEx. Today we delivered a very large jet engine to Memphis,Tn from Chicago. It belongs to a FedEx Freight jet and is to be installed at the Memphis...

    First Run w/ new carrier!

This was our first load with our new carrier. As you can see we traded the reefer box for a custom built stepdeck. The change in carriers has been enjoyable for us. Although we still do expedited freight we will be hauling a different type of freight than before.
