They should consider the size of the pallet the freight is sitting on as well.

Tough week. 2 dry runs in 2 days.

July in the land of Load One

I got a load out of New Jersey Friday with the same pickup time that delivered in Joplin, Mo. If that was yours, thanks. It turned a bad week into a good one. Plus I got out of Delaware on it. Been sitting in Memphis area since last night and it has been pretty quiet.

Advice for a 22 year old starting with van?

Outstanding post. Hard to imagine how the greatest generation dropped the ball when it came to passing on their ideals to the next generation. It is as if the boomers just consumed everything they could and left nothing for future generations.

Advice for a 22 year old starting with van?

I got it and it was funny. It's just a bit of a sore spot is all having kids coming of age and knowing they are going to have serious struggles just trying to keep up with the previous generations.

That would definately keep life on the road interesting. Good practice for how to stay under the radar in case of a zombie appocalypse.

Advice for a 22 year old starting with van?

Yep. The good paying factory jobs are few and far between and the people who would normally fill those jobs are doing whatever they can to scratch out a living.

Is Memphis really that bad? Only been doing this type of work for a little while and the only place I have felt truly uncomfortable spending the night at is a Pilot in Charlotte, NC. I had people banging on my door asking for money up until about 3am. One women, if you could call her that...

Advice for a 22 year old starting with van?

Great job if you can find a way to get your foot in the door. Even that job pays a lower hourly wage than an equivalent job at GM 25 years ago. Back then they made around $18 or $19 an hour and health insurance was free. Today, they start at around $16 an hour and insurance is definately not...

Advice for a 22 year old starting with van?

Exactly. I am a Michigan man and a large percentage of my family graduated from highschool and walked right into great jobs at GM working in the factory during the 60's and 70's. Many worked there for 40 years and never experienced a single layoff. Today, factory jobs usually require long...

Advice for a 22 year old starting with van?

I have done all kinds of work myself as well. Welder, machine operator, satellite tv installer, truck driver etc. Trucking is a very tough lifestyle to adapt to but at least you can always find work if you keep your license clean.

Advice for a 22 year old starting with van?

I understand your point about paying your dues. Not everyone who has paid their dues has done so in the transportation industry though. Try spending years working anywhere else. Plant closures, corporate downsizing, automation have hurt many people, forcing them to do all manner of things to...

I always love going to W Virginia for that reason. Not so great for getting a load but the scenery is exactly what the sign going in says "wild and wonderful"

Low prices are killing this month!ppl bending over like crazy!

My first thoughts about this were loose leaf logs and a trash can would solve any issues. Then I thought if there were ever an accident or some sort of environmental spill or something they would definately be looking to put everything on the driver.

Stated this way it makes perfect sense that continuing to log would be the thing to do. Unfortunately, continuing to log for an additional 7 days would almost certainly end in an HOS violation or a turn down to avoid being in violation. Lots of good information, however, lots of room left for...

So far it has been with the exception of the nonplacarded types. Nice rates with no hassles.
