Agreed... It never really dawned on me how close I came until I googled "blood clots in the lungs" More than 50% of the images were of autopsy photos of lungs clogged with clots...

That’s gotta be tough. Can’t imagine health restricting me from what we love best. Take care of yourself then worry about expediting. You are in our thoughts

It feels good to be researching again. Although my wife is not 100% vested in the idea right now, she still "keeps an ear to the rail" so to speak.

Thanks for the well wishes, I feel better than I have in years, so it would seem that the doctors are working some magic!

A quick update to this thread; back in April I changed careers and went over the road driving TTR. I spent the first 8-weeks with a trainer before being assigned my own truck. This lasted a short while, as on July 8 I had a kidney stone shake loose. I was out of work two weeks as 2 attempts were made to remove the stone. 3-days after the stone came out, I was rushed to the ER, where I was diagnosed with multiple blood clots in the lungs... seems like the 11 to 14 hours in the drivers seat had caught up to me as I was recovering from the kidney stone procedure. Deep Vein Thrombosis was the diagnosis, and I am now on a blood thinner called Xeralto. At first I was told 6-months, but a few specialists later, a "blood doc" told me 3-months at best, and I should all clean!! That third month is about to come to an end as I go for a CT scan on November 1...

So the thought was, I would get my feet wet out on the road, and once the kids were settled, my wife and I would strike out on a journey of expediting... Well, as it turns out, based on the events outlined above, I am no longer driving, but am in fact back at work at my old job.

I have recently (3-days ago) renewed my interest in Expediting, and have started the research trials over again. My wife, however, taking recent events as a sign that "its-not-meant-for-us-to-Expedite" is less than enthusiastic, and is currently not shouldering up with me at the computer... Time will tell.

Enjoyed reading your thread and thanks for the updates. Sorry to hear that your goal of driving did not pan out as expected. But hey, you've tried and acted on it. That is what matters the most. Awesome!

Please do consult with your doc about the diagnosis and driving. DVT is a very serious med issues, and may not be compatible with prolonged driving business. Certainly, you don't want to throw the clots while driving down the Tejon Pass on Calif Interstate 5. Bummer! Lol...

Got to say though, I really think your wife has great intuition. I'm pretty sure you both can come up with some other alternatives and find enjoyment in life. Good luck:)

Thanks for sharing.

We shall see; I have another CT scan happening on the 1st (Nov), and an appointment on the 2nd to get the results. Who knows if this will disqualify me for my next DOT physical, which is in April... That would be a complete shame, as my wife and I have worked really hard to build a driving future for ourselves.

Still around, still kicking, still on blood thinners... however, recently renewed my CDL, and still researching Expediting as a viable career. The best news is, that I have managed to lose 41 pounds since February, and will come off of thinners next month, 1-year since being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT)!

My wife and I hoped to attend the Expo this year, but a scheduling conflict with her job (mandatory over time), has squashed our trip... Maybe next year.

Until we can get our schit together, and I can get to a healthier state, I will continue researching.

Congrats on 40 lbs sir. That is a huge accomplishment. We are rooting for you all. Just think you will be the most researched person to ever start expediting.

You could still do the Expo alone, leaving your wife and 40 pound 3 year old behind. ;) You could meet other expediters, connect with recruiters from various carriers, check out equipment and gather good info to bring home to your wife.

Thanks Heather & Jason, we appreciate it. There is still so much to learn. My interest became peeked again after renewing my CDL... at one point I was looking at not renewing it due to the recent health issues, but my family doctor said that I am amking such good progress to renew the CDL anyway. I was so excited, it was like getting my CDL all over again. 25-years and counting now.

We did talk about it, and she was pretty adamant, we do it all together or not at all. It is eating her up too, as this job that requiring the O/T is one that she wants to get away from. If it were not for me, we would be starting out in expediting sooner rather than later...

Ultimatums by one team member could prove disastrous in the long term confines of a truck. I would think discussion and arriving at a mutual agreement, an agreement that benefits the team would be the best course of action. I'm a team of one. Sometimes I disagree with myself but eventually I reach an agreement that works best for Moot and myself.

Your attendance at the expo would speed up the information process. All info would be shared and the team could move forward making better informed decisions about expediting. Think like a team.

So part of our dilemma is getting our finances in order. Last year we were able to make leaping advances at getting our credit paid down, some $40 thousand worth, but two of our cars floundered, so we had to replace them etc etc. Our kids, who can be self sufficient, are still home while they attend college... So 2-steps forward, and 1-step back.

My wife and I spent the weekend looking deeper into the future, and we both agreed that Expediting is where we want to be. Basically, if I left my company now, the stock options from my company would be enough to pay off all of our debt, plus put us a little back in the bank, and rebuild an IRA or other savings account. She currently has obligations with work, weddings and family, but our path is looking clearer.

We want to get through this rough patch of my health, and get more debt paid down, and then we are going to seek serious commitment.
