Fuel prices in Ecuador

I was in Ecuador last week and diesel non ulsd was 1.03 per US gallon. Yes, you read that correct. They use the US dollar as thier currency and fuel is by the gallon just like ours. Oil is one of thier largest exports and the government helps subsidize the cost of fuel to keep it affordable. I about had a stroke!

Our government subsidizes fuel here, just not at the consumer level. Farmers get subsidies to grow corn and soybeans for fuel with our tax dollars and then we get to pay more at the pumps for this fuel. Socio-capitalism at its finest.

Our government has for many many years subsidized corn and soybean farmers long before bio feuls..that's why you find corn in every processed food. The government gives big tax credits to the bio feuls manufacturers as well as the big oil companies.
