Using Credit Wisely

During this economic down turn it becomes even more critical to utilize the system to one’s advantage. I realize that not everyone does well with managing credit card expenditures; hence, this post is for those consumers who pay off their balance every month. These disciplined consumers never pay any interest or fees. That is their reward for being good stewards.

Last year, I only operated my truck from August through December. All of my business related expenses (tax deductible or not) were charged on my credit card. At the year I had earned enough bonus points to purchase a Garmin 350 plus the dashboard “bean bag” mount for $288.46, give my wife a $100.00 gift card to JC Penny, give my son and daughter-in-law each a $50.00 gift card and still have $150.00 of bonus money to spend.

Moreover, my wife is prone to migraine headaches and her prescription purchased with this credit card costs us less than if we used our medical plan’s discount drug card. That translates into another $120.00 in savings each year.

I can also get a monthly print out of the items I can claim on my taxes, plus quarterly reports.

If I need to rent a car, the coverage is automatic by way of the insurance benefit provided by the credit card. Most folks do not realize that the majority of commercial insurance policies do not cover you while driving a rental car.

It is the best card I have found to date. If you would like to know more just drop me an email and I’ll get the information to you.

PS. The first 10,000 point benefit redeemable for a $100 gift card is a one-time bonus offered to new users.

With your Card you’ll earn:
10,000 ThankYou Points after $250 in purchases; redeemable for a $100 gift card
3 ThankYou Points for every $1 spent on purchases at restaurants, gas stations, certain office supply merchants and on auto rentals2
1 ThankYou Point for every $1 spent on other purchases2

That is a fair deal.

The card I am using works two ways.

I get 3 points for every $1.00 spent on fuel. (3%)

When I am ready to use the benefit I have two options:

I can take a cash payment or I can get a Gift Card/Certificate.

What is really cool, is that certain Gift Card/Certificate offers from companies that want to attract new customers actually offer a higher return on the benefit. For example: I might use 10,000 pts to get $100.00 in cash, but I might get a $100.00 gift card for 8,000 pts.

I give the gift cards to the kids and grandkids so they can buy something they want and dad saves a little money. Of course, there are always tools at Sears for me and clothes at JC Penny for my lovely wife. :) I can also redeem my points for Amazon.com Gift Certificates and they have pretty much everything; that is where I got my Garmin 350.

There's a credit site called myfico.com that has a 30 day free trial. It'll watch your credit score for Equifax. After the 30 days, it costs $89 a year. But the thing that got me was the excellent advice given in their forum. If you've gone thru a bankruptcy, or have bad credit, you'll find ways to turn your scores, and ultimately, your financial life around. They'll tell you which cards to get and which ones to stay away from. It's worked like a charm to get my scores higher.

Yes, I have reviewed that site.

To take advantage of the card I mentioned, you must have a good credit history.

For those who have overcome the blemished credit profile, this card offers a nice reward.

Glad to hear you are on the right track.
