Weirdest DOT story???

I'll start this one with the absolutely oddest occurence during an inspection. Laura had her license for a week. It still had the temp paper attached to it from the state. We're tooling along in MO when she has to go to the scales. The first weird thing was that the DOT guy flipped the sign to CLOSED as soon as she crossed the line. When she approached the house, the voice came thru and said "Pull around back to the barn." Not having her license for that long and being a little nervous and tired, she asked me what to do. So I told her to go around back and wait for the guy. He directed us into the barn and had her stop. This being her first ever DOT experience, she asked the inspector if I could be there with her, and he allowed it. He went thru her paperwork and everything else, inspected the truck and told us to pull out, park the truck and come inside. So we went in, he ran her license and sent us off with her first perfect inspection.

Here's the ultimate in weird... As we were looking at the paperwork he gave us, we noticed at the bottom of the page where he signed it, his name in type...

Many of us can say that we've had a Level I... but only a select few can say, they were inspected by Jesus!!!

Just curious , were you in the sleeper when she crossed the scales and did he also check your log book ? Whenever I'm inspected they have me change my duty status right there - except 1 time in one of those temporary stops in TN . I got back in my truck and started to update my logs and he told me to move because he spotted a truck coming in he really wanted to pull over and check .

I was in the sleeper, but had just woken up. No, he didn't check mine, but I've only had that happen twice.

That same trooper pulled us in on an explosive load we were carrying. He did a full inspection and sent us on our way. He was very professional during the stop.

I have had several inspections in MO and it is not uncommon for them to close the scale when they do it.
most times its early morning when they pull me in and usally they only have 1 officer in there so I suspect thats why they close it

I was in either WV or VA and was going across the scale.

I did my thing and expecting I would get a green light I got a red light and the voice came over the speaker "come to the scale house" - no bring your paper work or anything like that.

So I grabbed my log book, permit book and off to the tunnel I went. Hoofing it through the tunnel up the spiral stairs and into the office I went.

There were three truckers and two officers there, laughing their a**es off, just going to town about something. Finally after they settled down, the officer behind desk said "we could not say it over the intercom but you have such a cute little truck" and then busted out laughing. One trucker asked what model Tonka was it.

When I ran a cargo van, I got hassled one time at a Wal Mart Distribution warehouse. I was the only small shipment among a room of TT OTR guys. This warehouse didn't have a peddle door for small shipments like most do. They were all laughing about how they were gonna move their truck and block me in. They laughed all the way until the lady from the office came out and said there would be a fork driver to meet me across the parking lot. I waved goodbye as the 15 truckers who had been there longer than I watched me leave.

My weirdest DOT story went down at the Vicksburg,MS scales. I got called in and there was one DOT officer in the scale house, a young black man, and about 15 white drivers. We stood their while he called a couple more in. He called in a hispanic guy and as soon as he came through the door he said " I'm sorry I thought you were white you can leave". Then an Asian guy came in and the DOT officer told him the same thing. When it was my turn to talk to him he asked for my bol. I told him I was empty going to pick up a load. He said he would have to write me a ticket for having my trailer doors locked while being empty because I was trying to deceive him. I told him that was fine I needed to talk to his Captain because I was curious when the Mississippi DOT started targeting only white males. He let us all go.
