    Permit question

I stand corrected - the GCWR on the 09 F350 is 26k - 15k pulled trailer, 17,700 on a 5th wheel. So then I wouldn't need to deal with permits or fuel tax, just my DOT/MC number and insurance. The F450 on the other hand, GCWR is 33k, 16k pulled, 24,500 5th wheel. I think that's a tad overkill...

    $1500 a Month??

If you're going to team I would really reconsider the 40/60 and go 60/40 + 100% FSC. For example sake - The truck gets $1/mile For 1,000 Miles it got an AVG .30/mile FSC The truck AVG'ed 8 mpg Fuel price $2.00/gallon 40/60 The truck makes $1.300 (1k x $1 + 1k x .3) You get 40% of...

    Permit question

Alright, I'm thinking about starting to do hot shot work - I did some small stuff with my little 1/2 ton and loved it. So I'm thinking bout buying a nice F350 and going heavy. What do I need to consider when it comes to permits, etc? The truck would weigh in at about 13k, and I can haul up to a...

    Getting back to driving...

This doesn't have to do with expediting but I'm hoping I can get some advice. I'm stuck in between a rock and a hard place. I went to truck driving school in 05, drove OTR 53' Van for 6 months, took 6 months off then drove 6 months for Panther. That is the extent of my verifiable experience...

    Dump trucks

I was once told that some get paid by the weight and per trip - hence why you see trucks with 10 axles 25-30 tons/load will pay very good. In MI they run 100k lb "Gravel Trains".

6 weeks in and deeply disillusioned

Well by what you said it sounds like you went with Fedex CC. Well I drove for P2 for 6 months and I grossed at a team around $60-70k and fuel was $20k so not too bad. With 2 trucks you should be doing $300k to 400k/year. Being that it's been only 6 weeks you haven't had enough time to learn the...

    Panther A-Go-Go

Well there is a small bar in Medina called Jo-Jo's, it's behind the bowling alley. Thursday night is .10 wings, very very tasty. They also have some good booze... I've been carried out of that place a few times. There is a steak/rib place up by Walmart that has all you can eat rib/chicken on...

Hours Of Service & driver retention dilemmas

Ah creative logging. I've only been doing this for a year but have learned many many tricks. The electronic logging will change things but as said, one will log in and the other will drive. My team driver could do 8 at most so I would finish his 10 plus do my 10, so my day around 13-14 hours but...

is its slow for everyone right now?

Why does everyone hate Canada!!!! As long as your paperwork is in order, you will not have an issue. I like driving there better than here, better roads, drivers that know how to drive, higher speed limts, some good food in Toronto, etc. I see no downside to going there except that you might be...

    Your Dream Truck

Well someone has to buy the new trucks otherwise you wouldn't have the nice $40,000 truck to buy. Personally I could see spending 200k+ on a truck. I like big and shinny things. At that price range your talking a fully loaded class 8 w/ duals, lift gate, refer, generator, etc. And with that you...

    WHY!

Well I understand that but when you go into trucking it's just insane. I had to provide 1099's, notarized letters of reffrence AND my business license to prove I was self-employed. If I go to a normal job just saying I was employed by myself from such and such is fine.

    WHY!

It's a simple question... WHY IN THE "BEEP" do we need to provide details of our entire life history AND provide proof of such when we go for a driving job? I've been thru 3 trucking companies and everyone needs proof of what I did for the last 10 years including where I worked, how long, why I...

    Are These The Bad Times?

Well the US is turning into a "Service" nation, if a store was to go to selling only items made in the usa it would only take up a self or two compared to 10 years ago where you could fill the store. I think this current down turn has no bottom and it'll never be back up, it will the biggest...

    Fuel purchase question.........

I've never had problems with comdata, now I've alway used the card not a check and thats where I see a lot of problems. With Panther and Fed ex you get 40% of the load after delivery to your comdata, if the owner you go with sets it up that way. Now if you want cash and what not then it can get...

    Fuel purchase question.........

If you goto the TA's you get a discount on fuel with Panther + you get a .01/gallon in points. So on 150 gallons you get a $1.50 back in points so the $1.50 in fees on the comdata get wiped out.
