Running for Life: Dave's Story

Dave Large is a man with a mission. 

The Bolt Express dispatcher is preparing to run a marathon to help a two-year old girl. A two-year old girl with Leukemia.

Nataleigh Hartman was diagnosed with Leukemia in October 2006.  She's been undergoing treatment and appears to be improving.

Dave says, "Hearing her dad talk about the ordeal and the treatments Nataleigh has had to go through was enough to break any father's heart."

Both Dave and Nataleigh's family are involved in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's "Team In Training"- an endurance sports training program.  The program provides training to run or walk marathons and half marathons or participate in triathlons and century (100-mile) bike rides.
 
Says Dave, "We run races to raise money to help people with Leukemia and other blood cancers.  Nataleigh's dad recently ran in the Cleveland Marathon to help in fund-raising."

He continues, "The more I learn about the Society and make known what I am doing, the more people I hear about that are affected by this.  There are actually several members of my extended family that have either been treated for or died from Leukemia.   It’s really been exciting for me to be a part of something like this."

"I am training for the October 21, 2007 Nike Marathon (26.2 miles) in San Francisco, CA.  My fundraising goal is $4,400 and my race goal time is 2:59.  I chose this time in honor of another amazing cancer survivor, Lance Armstrong.  That was his marathon race time." 

Dave (34) says he has been running for twenty years.  This will be only his second marathon.

He adds, "If anyone would like to mail donations they can be made (preferably by check) to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  The checks should not be made out to me.  However, they can be mailed to me at the Bolt Express address."
