Along with the new year comes the newest member of the expediting truck family at Freightliner of Knoxville. A Class 8 truck that weighs in at 33,000 GVW, the CL-120 Columbia is a natural for the expediting market. Based on the time-proven Century Class platform, the new Columbia combines state of the art aerodynamics and ergonomics with a bold, traditional look.

This truck is designed to offer the Owner/Operators in the emergency freight industry a new heavy duty truck option for their operations.

Those familiar with the Century class body styling will immediately recognize the newly redesigned nose of this new 2001 model, the model's first year. It's big truck heritage is readily apparent with it's full-size cab with integral 70' Raised Roof sleeper.

Class 8 luxury and comfort are available in the Columbia, with a complete range of options that make the expediting life easier. This unit offers many features not offered in most other medium duty-based expediting trucks.

The Columbia has a factory-built integral "Condo" sleeper with air ride cab and sleeper suspension. It also features power door locks and windows, swivel seats, cruise control, tilt steering wheel, premium interior, TV/VCR hookups, 12 volt refrigerator and microwave(no inverter needed), upper and lower bunks and lots of storage room.

Dan Tilley, Expediting Truck Specialist, Freightliner of Knoxville and Operations Manager of ExpeditersOnline.com says, "I've been involved in the expediting market for several years now, and this has to be one of the best looking trucks I've seen. And with the proven durability of the Century Class, it's definitely one of the best values in it's field."

In the power department, the Columbia features a 12.7 liter, 400hp Detroit diesel engine matched with a Fuller 10-speed Autoshift transmission which is controlled by Freightliner's revolutionary new SmartShift technology. The motor is Jacob's Engine Brake equipped.

The 22'Supreme van body is equipped with all the necessary "D" unit specs including with 3 rows of E-track and translucent ceiling panels. This setup includes the Forklift Package with landing gear. With it's polished aluminum wheels, this truck definitely stands out.

Dan Tilley says, "We're quite proud to offer this expediting-specific truck with Class 8 origins. We consider it to be an "eight to ten year" truck, with the enhanced reliability and service life of a heavy duty truck in an expediter package."

Of particular interest is the comprehensive class 8 Warranty. Backed by a 1 year/100,000 mile base warranty, and extended warranties extending all the way out to 5 years/500,000 miles on some components, this greatly exceeds the warranty traditionally offered on medium duty expediting trucks. The warranty coverage includes 5 years/500,000 miles on the engine and 5 years/750,000 miles on the transmission and rears.

Because the sleeper is factory built, it is warranted by Freightliner. That means the entire cab is covered by Freightliner's cab structure warranty. The Freightliner Warranty is good at all Freightliner dealers in the United States, and many small warranty repairs can be done at the 160 Travel Centers of America Service Point Locations.

Dan Tilley tells us, "We currently have the new Columbia in stock and would love the opportunity to show them off!"
