"Since beginning the series a few years ago," McIntyre continues, "we've been able to bring the expedited experience, or 'message', if you will, to many people who have been looking at a career in the business."

"It's been a rewarding experience for me personally, to meet the folks at the shows who have been looking into expediting career possibilities and their potential place in the business.  The Workshop attendees are a pretty sharp group of people who have been researching 2nd and 3rd career options and they're seriously interested in this area of trucking."

The mission
workshop3.jpgThe workshops are designed to give an overview of the business and to answer the many questions prospective expediters have about getting started.  The events cover everything from what constitutes expedited trucking to truck financing. The workshops are very helpful in determining if expedited trucking is the right career for an owner-operator.

Micki McIntyre: "The Workshops are presented in a fun and friendly atmosphere with the emphasis on sharing factual information about how to get started in the emergency freight business. There are many retirees and empty-nesters who are looking for that second career that they can share together."

"We have a number of couples attending our events who we find have been researching the business through our web site, Expediters Online.com.  They tell us that they feel the expediting opportunity offers them a chance to operate their own business which provides a very respectable income, while at the same time, they can see the country together."

Bob and Katie Davidson of Hillsboro, Ohio attended a Workshop held at the Expedite Expo in July 2006.  Bob says of the event, "We actually got more information about expediting than we expected.  I've been driving 18-wheelers for a company for 26 years now, both as a company driver and as an owner-operator. I still enjoy the road, but I'd like to have Katie with me now."

Katie says, "Bob and I have talked about my joining him in the truck, but I don't want to drive one of the tractor-trailers.  He thinks that I could handle a straight truck easily enough and we came to the Workshop to find out more about this kind of business."

The speakers
workshop4.jpgA highlight of the Expediter Workshops is the roster of experienced professionals who present the expedite opportunity in plain language.  The speakers, some of whom are currently expedite owner-operators and fleet owners themselves, give a real-world picture of the business, without a rose-colored glasses perspective.

The speakers for this Expediter Workshop series opener in Knoxville are a group of very popular presenters, with many years of experience in the expedited freight business.

"Exploring Expediting - What it is and What it is Not"
Terry O'Connell, Expedited Owner-Operator

"Trends in Purchasing Your Expedite Trucks"
Jon Mosier, Expedited Truck Specialist

"Expedite Trucks and a Behind-the-Scene Look at Maintenance"
Heath Wood, Expedited Truck Specialist

"Keys to Successful Business Operations"
Dave Corfman, Expedited Fleet Owner

Micki McIntyre:  "Because of the low-key, informal setting of the Workshops, the attendees can meet one-on-one with our speakers after their presentations to have any additional questions answered.  The Workshops are all about information!"

She adds, "We also have a number of vendor exhibitors available at our events as well - from top-line expedited carrier recruiters to expedited truck dealers - all to help our attendees in finding answers."

"And, you know, the Workshops are not just for those considering the business, they are for the current expediter as well.  Our seminars are a great way for the expedited freight professional to discover new strategies and tips to assist him/her in running their business."

Truck dealers and vendors
Among the sponsors of the Expediter Workshops are some of the  best-known and most respected expedited truck dealers in the nation.  Selected dealers and vendors will be displaying examples of their best-selling expedited trucks.

Two relative newcomers (1 year) to the expediting business, Edward and Cathy Rinard of Michigan say that they've been very pleased with their new life as expediters.  Edward retired after 27 years in a factory and Cathy is a former school bus driver.

Cathy says, "When I wake up every morning, I think, 'so, where am I going today?'  Every day is a new adventure!  We love the business, our family is happy with it, it provides a very good income, we enjoy an independent lifestyle and we're seeing the country!"

This event is free of charge, but we ask that attendees pre-register online.  There will be refreshments served along with giveaways provided by our sponsors.

This is a fantastic opportunity to get the facts on one of the fastest-growing and lucrative segments of transportation today - expedited freight!  If you've been considering a career in this industry or if you've been looking to start your own business, the EO Workshop is for you!

Make your plans today to join us in Knoxville, Tennessee on Thursday, February 15, 2007.  For online registration and more details on this event, visit the Expediters Workshop Homepage.

See you in Knoxville!

In 2005 my job of twenty-two years came to an unexpected end. I heard about the Expediter Workshops from my brother-in-law,  so my wife and I decided to attend. Thanks to that workshop, we now have an exciting career, a new truck and we get to see the country and make a decent living. I recommend this to anyone wanting to learn about this business. It worked for us. …  Charles Harris
