YRC consolidation in N.C. to result in layoffs
KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — A trucking company official says hundreds of workers will lose their jobs and a distribution center will be moved following the consolidation of North Carolina operations.
Consolidation of Roadway Express and Yellow Transportation operations in Kernersville means between about 210 workers will be laid off. Yellow acquired Roadway in 2003 and became YRC Worldwide.
Company official Michael Smid said a Kernersville distribution center will become a pickup and delivery operation. About 400 employees will stay in Kernersville. Those losing jobs can pursue work in Charlotte and other locations.
Layoffs and the terminal closing are expected to start in March.
