Two of ATA’s councils reorganize
ARLINGTON, Va. — The Safety & Loss Prevention Management Council and the Security Council of the American Trucking Associations have reorganized to form the Supply Chain Security & Loss Prevention Council (SCS&LPC) and the Safety Management Council (SMC), ATA said Wednesday.
Announcement of the realignment came after affirmative votes by both councils’ management advisory boards and membership at their February Winter Steering Meetings.
“The reorganization recognizes the operational synergy between freight claims, loss prevention and security, as well as the singular, paramount focus of trucking’s safety professionals. It also reflects the expanded scope of today’s transportation security, asset protection and risk management professionals, which includes homeland security concerns like credentialing and emergency preparedness,†said an ATA news release.
“Reuniting freight claims and loss prevention professionals with security professionals is a more logical fit,†explained Susan Chandler, executive director of the former and newly realigned councils. “Expanding and refocusing the scope of these councils will also help us more effectively meet the needs of these councils’ unique memberships, as well as the industry at large.â€
ATA said its council members gain insight from the technical expertise of council staff and professional colleagues, develop industry recommended practices and contribute valuable hands-on experience to ATA policy committees through their committees, task forces and study groups.
The ATA Supply Chain Security & Loss Prevention Council (SCS&LPC) is a “national organization dedicated exclusively to addressing, establishing and advancing those policies and practices that achieve maximum security (supply chain, personnel, cargo, truck, facility, information and the homeland) throughout the trucking industry; effective freight loss and damage control; cargo theft reduction; successful claims management; and secure, non-violent work environments,†said an ATA news release. Further, it stated that “The ATA Safety Management Council (SMC) is the only national organization dedicated to advancing safe policies, practices and technology; and effective risk management and accident/injury prevention in the trucking industry.†Within the ATA’s federation there are five councils for individuals to join that offer professional development and provide a deep pool of operational knowledge and experience within specific facets of the trucking business. In addition to SCS&LPC and SMC other ATA councils include:
Information Technology & Logistics Council (ITLC) for today’s IT, logistics and operations professionals
Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) for trucking experts in equipment maintenance and specifications, purchasing and “on-board†truck technologies, and
National Accounting and Finance Council (NAFC) for carrier CFOs and managers in federal and state tax compliance, financial management, accounting, insurance and risk management.
