Truckers dealt second blow after disappointing DC protest turnout
Already cash-strapped, truckers who convoyed to Capitol Hill earlier this week to protest fuel prices and meet with lawmakers were dealt another blow when they woke up on Wednesday, Sept. 24, and found two of their rigs and one trailer missing.
Late Tuesday, some of the truckers who were staying at a Comfort Inn asked a hotel employee whether it would be OK to park their trucks and a trailer at the nearby Capitol Plaza Shopping Center.
The next morning they returned to the parking lot to find their rigs and a trailer missing. Later they found out the equipment had been impounded and there was a $2,000 price tag to get it out of “truck jail.†According to The Washington Times, the lot was posted with a “no parking†sign, but the truckers said they did not see it.
