Trucker movie to be released in theaters
Monterey Media has acquired rights to James Mottern’s film
Trucker, which will be released in theaters beginning October 9, opening exclusively in New York theaters before a nationwide release. The movie premiered at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival.
Written and directed by Mottern, the movie tells the story of a female truck driver, Diane Ford, who turns her carefree life around after taking in her estranged 11-year-old son. “I tried to make ‘Trucker’ for a few years. … One problem I was always faced with was finding a lead actress that really spoke to me on a gut level,†Mottern said in a statement. “I looked for a long time.â€
Mottern found his lead actress in Michelle Monaghan (
Gone Baby Gone,
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang). Other featured actors are Benjamin Bratt (“Law and Order,†“The Cleanerâ€) and Nathan Fillion (“Castle,â€
Serenity).
“We bought this film because we just fell in love with it, with Michelle’s amazing performance and with the beauty of James’ script,†said Monterey Media CFO and Managing Partner Jere Rae-Mansfield in a statement.
Though not widely realeased,
Trucker and its cast have already received awards. According to the movie’s website, the film was awarded the Best Narrative Feature Jury Award at the 18th Woods Hole Film Festival earlier this year. Monaghan received the “Excellence in Acting†award at the 2009 Vail Film Festival.
