Troopers crack down on Hampton Roads speeders
RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia State Police is stepping up patrols along interstates in Hampton Roads as part of Operation Air, Land, and Speed.
Troopers will be cracking down on speeders along the entire length of Interstate 64 and on Interstates 264, 464 and 664 on Thursday and Friday. The special enforcement campaign is meant to remind motorists to slow down, buckle up and drive responsibly and without distractions.
Last year, a similar effort yielded more than 3,300 violations over two days.
During last summer's operation, two senior troopers from Chesapeake were injured when they were struck by vehicles. Virginia State Police reminds motorists that by law they must change lanes or slow down to pass emergency personnel stopped along the side of the road.
