If your wheels have stopped at a TA or Petro lately, you may have noticed the truck stop giant is selling blue and green wristbands to raise green for the St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund.

The campaign began Nov. 15 and runs through Dec. 15. Each $1 donation to support the St. Christopher Fund will get you a blue wristband at any TA and a green wristband at any Petro.

The Fund offers financial help to drivers who are dealing with health issues. In 2010, the generosity of truckers through the Band Together campaign raised $211,115 and another $3,300 during the Mid-America Trucking Show for the St. Christopher Fund.

The goal for 2011 is $220,000. In addition to supporting the Fund through the Band Together program, truckers can visit www.truckersfund.com or call 877-332-GIVE (4483) to donate.

The St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund (SCF) is a Christian-based, 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization that provides assistance to professional truck drivers whose medical problems have led to financial hardship. SCF also conducts health research to benefit professional drivers and the trucking industry. SCF was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 2007.

Since its inception, the St. Christopher fund has helped 440 truckers through November of this year. Executive Director Dr. Donna Kennedy reports that more than $183,000 has been spent to help truckers with needs due to medical issues.

Kennedy reported today that 11 new applicants had been received this month and three had already been helped. Fifteen applicants received help during November.

SCF Operations Manager Arlene Plemons noted that the request for help has increased since the TA/Petro campaign began. Plemons said she has sent out at least 15 applications each week since the Band Together campaign kicked off.
