Suspension of safety rules extended until Oct. 15
The
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued an extension until
Oct. 15 of its temporary suspension of certain federal safety
regulations for carriers and drivers involved in the emergency relief
effort in the aftermath of hurricanes Gustav and Ike. Safety rules,
which have been suspended since Sept. 13, include hours of service.
The
extension was prompted by a fuel shortage emergency in several Southern
states caused by shutdowns of several oil refineries from the storm in
early September. The extension applies to drivers operating in Alabama,
Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
