On-highway diesel up 4.3 cents
On-highway diesel prices were up 4.3 cents today compared with what they were last week, ringing up at $2.274 a gallon compared with $2.231 at the pump a week ago. However, the price was still $2.449 below what diesel was selling for last year.
Diesel was up to $2.410 a gallon in the Central Atlantic region, followed by the New England reporting area, where today on-highway diesel was selling for $2.409.
Truckers in the Midwest reporting region were only having to pay $2.229 a gallon for ultra-low sulfur diesel compared with $2.170 on May 18.
It’s really anyone’s guess as to what oil (and so eventually diesel) prices will do, with “experts†voicing differing opinions.
U.S. crude oil futures fell today as the dollar gained against the euro, and the market was holding its breath waiting on whether oil ministers will decide to cut production when they meet on Thursday.
John Kilduff, senior vice president at MF Global, said prices right now “seem destined to test the $60 mark, as they did in overnight trading,†Reuters reported.
Last Wednesday’s $62.26 intraday peak was the highest front-month crude price since the Nov. 11 price of $62.28.
