Mack lays off 180 plant workers
Mack Trucks will lay off 180 employees at its factory near Allentown, Pa., a company spokesman said Wednesday.
The
spokesman said the layoffs will take effect Dec. 23, when the plant
will stop production for its customary holiday break. This time,
however, the break will last an extra week, with fewer workers
returning to the plant Jan. 12. The truck manufacturer employs about
680 workers at its Pennsylvania plant.
In October Mack had recalled about 150 employees to meet an increase in orders from Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.
Last August Mack said it was moving its headquarters, test center and about 600 employees from Allentown to Greensboro, N.C.
