Jacksonville, Fla. - Landstar System, Inc. (NASDAQ:LSTR), a worldwide, asset-light provider of integrated transportation management solutions delivering safe, specialized transportation services, presented the 2016 Landstar Safety Officer of the Year Award to Landstar Agent Lacey Crosson-Cornelius at its annual convention in Orlando, Fla. this month.

Crosson-Cornelius of the Crosson Agency LLC of Gadsden, Ala. was selected from the 12 Landstar Safety Officers (LSO) of the Month winners for that year. The agencies these monthly winners represent have very low accident and cargo loss frequency rates and continuously look for ways to improve safety.

"Each LSO exhibits true leadership qualities and embraces the Landstar safety culture, providing safe, damage-free transportation service," says Mike Cobb, Landstar vice president of safety and compliance. "The Landstar Safety Officer of the Year, like Lacey, consistently showcases efforts and implements programs that standout to support and reinforce the importance of safety."

During a special ceremony held April 8, 2017, Cobb presented the award to Crosson-Cornelius, who also was recognized in February 2016 as the Landstar LSO of the Month.

"I am very excited that Landstar is recognizing our agency this year. Our team at the Crosson Agency is committed to creating a safe and reliable service for our capacity and customers by providing a complete and accurate dispatch. It is important for us to constantly be aware that the actions of every individual can make a difference," said 2016 Landstar LSO of the Year Lacey Crosson-Cornelius.

"The support from everyone on the Landstar team is key in the success of the Landstar safety culture. We are grateful to be associated with a company whose commitment to safety is second to none."

In 2016, the Crosson Agency supported seven safety meetings with Landstar owner-operators. Crosson-Cornelius also participated at two national trucking shows, and sponsored the agency's annual safety event held in Gadsden. She conducted two customer visits as part of Landstar's Mutual Understanding of Safety Together (M.U.S.T.) program, which involves an extensive tour of a customer's facility, followed by discussion of best safety and securement practices with the customer. As well, Crosson-Cornelius actively participated in every monthly Landstar system-wide Safety Thursday Conference Call.

Also, Crosson-Cornelius was praised for using tools such as Landstar Connect, the mobile app that tracks freight being handled by their agency and offers increased customer visibility.

Landstar requires each of its 1,100 agents to name an individual responsible for the safety performance of their agency. The designated Landstar Safety Officers (LSOs) promote safe, secure and compliant driving, participate in a monthly Safety Thursday Conference Call, and support customer safety initiatives. Each month, Landstar names a Landstar Safety Officer of the Month from which the Landstar Safety Officer of the Year is selected.
