The comment period on a petition filed by the American Trucking Associations regarding identification requirements by three non-federal entities has been extended to Dec. 3.

On Nov. 20, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration expanded the comment period that was originally scheduled to expire the day before because of the interest the notice generated.

The FMCSA had invited public comment on the ATA petition. It requested the agency determine if the commercial motor vehicle identification requirements imposed by New Jersey, New York City and Cook County, Ill., are preempted by federal law.

All comments must include the docket number, which is FMCSA-2009-0271.

Comments may be made via the Federal eRulemaking Portal at www.regulations.gov . People may also fax comments to (202) 493-2251, or mail to Docket Management Facility; U.S. Department of Transportation, Room W12-140, 1200 New Jersey Ave. S.E., Washington, DC 20590-0001.

The notice is posted at http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2009/E9-27855.htm .
