Highway Hero nominations open

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is seeking nominations for the 27th annual Goodyear North America Highway Hero Awards. Nominations will be accepted through Nov. 30.

To be eligible, the nominee must be a full-time driver and a resident of the United States or Canada. The incident for which the nomination is being made should have occurred in the U.S. or Canada, and the nominee must have been on the way to or from work and in his or her rig at the time of the incident. The incident must have taken place between Nov. 16, 2008, and Nov. 15, 2009, to qualify.

Joseph Copeland, vice president for Goodyear commercial tire systems, says the Highway Heroes program is designed to recognize some of the good things that happen in the world, since “too many times we only hear about the negative news in our world. This extends to truck drivers, who play such an important role in transporting freight from place to place and allowing us to enjoy the easy availability of consumer goods.” Copeland says Goodyear seeks to honor the men and women who “truly are America’s unsung heroes.”
