Fuel prices drop 9.3 cents to average $2.422 nationwide

While fuel prices continue to drop across the country – down another 9.3 cents to average $2.422 per gallon this past week – so has the demand for freight during these rocky economic times.

The Energy Information Administration is reporting on Monday, Dec. 15, that fuel prices are down nearly 89 cents from this same week in 2007.

All nine regions of the country are again reporting fuel prices below the $3 mark, with two regions, known for having high fuel prices, reporting diesel near the $2 mark for the first time in more than two years.

The California region is reporting the lowest price for diesel at $2.292, while the West Coast region is averaging $2.309 per gallon. The New England region is still reporting the highest fuel prices of all the regions – averaging $2.70 per gallon.
