Freightliner to cut 1,500 manufacturing jobs
CLEVELAND, N.C. — Freightliner says about 1,500 workers at its Rowan County plant will be laid off.
The Salisbury Post reported that the company said April 3 that it plans to lay off about half its workers at the truck manufacturing plant in Cleveland, about 45 miles north of Charlotte.
The company said it plans to reduce to one shift per day beginning June 6 from the current two shifts unless market conditions improve.
About 2,900 people work now at the plant. Freightliner is the heavy truck subsidiary of German automaker Daimler AG and is based in Portland, Ore.
