WASHINGTON — The White House on Thursday sent the nomination of Anne S. Ferro to the Senate for confirmation as administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

President Barack Obama announced in early June that Ferro, who has been serving as president and CEO of the Maryland Motor Truck Association (MMTA), was his choice for the post.

Ferro’s nomination could easily be confirmed in a matter of days, The Trucker has learned.

Between 1997 and 2003, Ferro served as Maryland’s Motor Vehicle Administrator where she established a strong record in highway safety, regulatory compliance and agency leadership, the president said.

“She [Ms. Ferro] has extensive experience in driver and vehicle safety having led the agency’s efforts to establish a graduated licensing program for new drivers in Maryland as well as a model for older driver research,” Obama said in a release to the media when he announced Ferro’s appointment.

In addition to serving as president of the MMTA, Ferro also serves on several regional advisory committees relating to freight planning, highway safety and transportation funding.

Ferro would replace John Hill, who served as FMCSA administrator during the last years of the Bush administration.
