Akron, PA - October 20, 2009 - Driver turnover may be at an all time low but all predictions point to a crisis as the economy grows and carriers expand their operations. Carriers that are sensitive to their workforce will want to do everything possible to keep their drivers happy and healthy and one way to build a better relationship with drivers is to reduce stress on the family when the driver is away from home.

Ellen Voie, a recognized author in the trucking industry, recently released a Workbook for Professional Drivers and Their Families. The book, published by Bruce Martin, is filled with information on overcoming challenges faced in a long distance relationship. Sections include goal setting, expectations, holidays and information on the importance of the trucking industry.

The National Association of Professional Truck Driving Schools (NAPFTDS.org ) is promoting the workbook to their member schools. Robert McClanahan, Executive Director said, “Finally, we now have a guide for truckers and their families. Not only does this workbook explain how to deal with the trucker being away from home, it also gives great insight as to what it is like to be a trucking family. This workbook will show how to make a successful career change that will be rewarding for the entire family. Thanks Ellen for your knowledge and experience.”

The Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C.edu ) in Cleveland, Ohio is providing the workbook to their students to ensure that their new drivers have the support of their families. “This Workbook describes some of the personal challenges your new lifestyle will bring to your family, friends and to you. It also gives you solutions to many of the pitfalls new drivers get trapped in. I am using the word lifestyle in place of job for the very reasons contained in the workbook,” said Kreigh Spahr, Program Manager at Tri-C's truck driving academy.

Voie's background in the trucking industry extends back to 1980 when she earned her diploma in Traffic and Transportation Management. She obtained her Master's Degree in Communication in 1999 after completing her graduate research on “The Diverse Identities of Women Married to Professional Drivers.” She is currently the President/CEO of the Women In Trucking Association (WomenInTrucking.org ), which encourages and supports women in the trucking industry.

Years ago, Bruce Martin had an idea to use internet technology to link truck drivers and trucking companies together. He knew there had to be a better way for drivers to fill out applications, store them and share them with potential employers. In turn, there would be an easier way for companies to find qualified drivers. The answer came through using the internet as the job bank.

Fourteen years later the website offers comprehensive recruiting and job finding services to the trucking industry, as well as educational articles for truck drivers and owners, communication boards, and other services.

Bruce currently is CEO of Layover.com, manages Truck.net and MyTruckingSpace.com and has recently partnered with TruckersHelper.com .
