A simple “thank you” will never be enough for the men and women who dedicate their lives to keeping America moving. Every day, professional truck drivers crisscross our highways, spending countless hours, and often days or weeks away from home to deliver the goods and essentials that power our economy. From groceries and medicine to construction materials and fuel, nearly everything we rely on makes its way to us because of a driver’s commitment behind the wheel.

This coming week,  September 15th through the 21st, the nation pauses to recognize these essential professionals during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (NTDAW 2025). It’s a moment that’s set aside each year to shine a spotlight on the 3.5 million truck drivers across the United States whose hard work keeps America’s gears grinding forward.

The Backbone of the Economy
The trucking industry is indisputably the backbone of commerce in America. According to the American Trucking Associations, trucks move over 70 percent of the nation’s freight by weight. That means when shelves are stocked, hospitals are supplied, and businesses are able to operate, a truck driver’s dedication is often at the heart of it all.

Yet, this essential work is not without sacrifice. Drivers face long stretches away from their families, demanding schedules, unpredictable weather conditions, and the responsibility of navigating massive vehicles safely across thousands of miles. Their role requires not only skill but also resilience and determination.

More Than Just a Job
Driving a truck is not simply an occupation, it’s a lifestyle. Professional drivers often describe their work as a calling, one that requires patience, responsibility, and pride. They are guardians of the supply chain, working behind the scenes so that the rest of us rarely have to think about how products arrive at our doorsteps or local stores.

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week serves as a reminder to acknowledge these individuals not just for the work they do, but for the values they embody: perseverance, reliability, and service.

Celebrating the Week
During NTDAW 2025, companies, communities, and organizations across the country will host events to celebrate drivers. From cookouts and appreciation lunches to giveaways and recognition ceremonies, the week provides opportunities to say thank you in many different and meaningful ways. Some carriers also use this time to highlight safe-driving milestones, years of service, and other professional achievements of their drivers.

For the general public, showing gratitude can be as simple as a wave, a kind word at a truck stop, or practicing safe driving habits when sharing the road. Small gestures can go a long way in reminding drivers that their sacrifices are both recognized and appreciated.

Looking Ahead
As the trucking industry continues to face challenges like driver shortages, evolving regulations, and economic pressures, the importance of supporting and appreciating drivers continues to grow. National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is more than a celebration, it’s a call to recognize the essential role these men and women play in the daily lives of every American.

Let’s take the time to honor the commitments and sacrifices of truck drivers everywhere. Because without them, America simply stops moving.
