Diesel prices increase first week of August

The weekly average price of diesel increased to $3.85 for the week ending Monday, Aug. 6, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

The weekly gain ranged from a penny and a half to more than 8 cents. The Rocky Mountain region gained the most, while New England rose the least.

The EIA reported the following averages for the week:

U.S. – $3.85, up 5.4 cents
East Coast – $3.869, up 2.7 cents
New England – $3.946, up 1.5 cents
Central Atlantic – $3.934, up 2.6 cents
Lower Atlantic – $3.806, up 3.1 cents
Midwest – $3.851, up 6.9 cents
Gulf Coast – $3.752, up 5.6 cents
Rocky Mountain – $3.813, up 8.4 cents
West Coast – $3.959, up 6.1 cents
West Coast less California – $3.883, up 6.7 cents
California – $4.023, up 5.6 cents

ProMiles, which surveys daily prices at 9,400 truck stops, recorded average diesel prices at $3.869 on Monday, up 2.4 cents over Sunday.

In separate energy news, during midday trading in New York on Monday, oil prices were up to $92.18, an increase of 78 cents over the weekend.
