Diesel average down another 5 cents to $3.846

The national average price for on-highway diesel dropped another 5 cents during the past week.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported the national average at $3.846 on Monday, June 4.

Decreases for the week ranged from 2.9 cents in the Rocky Mountain region to 6.7 cents on the West Coast with the exception of California.

Following is a roundup of price averages by region as reported by the EIA:

U.S. – $3.846, down 5.1 cents
East Coast – $3.886, down 5.4 cents
New England – $4.036, down 3.6 cents
Central Atlantic – $3.968, down 5.5 cents
Lower Atlantic – $3.797, down 5.7 cents
Midwest – $3.746, down 4.9 cents
Gulf Coast – $3.757, down 4.5 cents
Rocky Mountain – $3.919, down 2.9 cents
West Coast – $4.101, down 6.3 cents
West Coast less California – down $6.7 cents
California – $4.169, down 5.9 cents

The national average was down nearly 10 cents from where it was a year ago.

ProMiles recorded the daily national average at $3.836 on Monday, down seven-tenths of a cent over the weekend and 5 cents during the past seven days.

According to the ProMiles survey, just eight states have an average price above $4 including taxes. Washington state had the highest average on Monday at $4.256 followed by Connecticut at $4.122. Missouri had the lowest tax-included average at $3.549. Indiana was the next lowest at $3.620.

Crude oil was trading below $84 a barrel last week, the lowest since October 2011. Crude prices had rebounded slightly on Monday to $84.08 according to the New York Mercantile Exchange.

European crude known as Brent hit a 28-month low late last week at $95.63 per barrel. Prices were up on Monday to $97.83. Just three months ago, Brent crude was trading at $128 a barrel.
