Diesel average down 4 cents to $4.085

The national average price for on-highway diesel fuel decreased more than 4 cents during the past week. The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported the national average at $4.085 per gallon for the week ending Monday, April 23.

With the exception of the New England region, where the average was unchanged, most areas of the country experienced decreases of 3- to 4 cents for the week.

The Midwest and Gulf Coast regions saw their averages slip below the $4 mark. The biggest decrease for the week belonged to the West Coast region at 5.7 cents.

Following are the averages by region as reported Monday by the EIA:

U.S. – $4.085, down 4.2 cents
East Coast – $4.146, down 3.5 cents
New England – $4.269, unchanged
Central Atlantic – $4.245, down 3.5 cents
Lower Atlantic – $4.050, down 4.1 cents
Midwest – $3.974, down 4.7 cents
Gulf Coast – $3.993, down 4.5 cents
Rocky Mountain – $4.090, down 3.9 cents
West Coast – $4.345, down 4.4 cents
California – $4.384, down 3.4 cents

ProMiles reported the daily average at $4.075 on Monday, down two-tenths of a cent overnight and nearly 4.5 cents since last Monday.

Washington state had the highest average at $4.477 including taxes, with Connecticut the next highest at $4.411.

At the low end, Indiana was averaging just below $3.80 followed by Missouri at just under $3.83.

The average price for domestic crude oil was at $103 per barrel on Monday, the same average it was a week ago. In Europe, Brent crude was at $118 a barrel, down about $2 from last week and $3 in the past two weeks.
