CVSA brake check coming Wednesday, May 6

On Wednesday, May 6, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance will be conducting brake checks across the country.

The brake check is part of Operation Air Brake, which includes a number of announced and unannounced brake checks throughout the year, culminating in Brake Safety Week in September.

During the inspections, inspectors will test the mechanical components of both air brakes and steering axle brakes as well as brake adjustments, air pressure, air loss rates and tractor protection systems.

The CVSA says brakes account for about 17 percent of all out-of-service violations each year.
