Ben Bauman, Owner and CEO of Bolt Express Takes on Safety Challenge

Thursday, February 16th, 2012 - A friendly bet with Ben Bauman (CEO/Owner) and a Bolt Express employee turned into quite the production this year on Valentine’s Day.  In an effort to settle a bet, Bauman completed a pre-trip inspection and then climbed into a 53’ tractor trailer.  With all employees and several vendors on hand to witness the event, Ben Bauman successfully backed the trailer into a loading dock within the allotted timeframe.

However, in an interesting turn of events, Bauman was notified by his Safety Coordinator, Sheryl Barnes, that he had been disqualified from the challenge for failing to buckle his seatbelt. Sheryl is a former Owner Operator that joined the Bolt Express safety team last year to oversee driver training and support.  She monitored the pre-trip inspection and then rode along with Bauman to evaluate his performance.

Our drivers have to live up to that same standard every day.”  Sheryl Barnes (Bolt Express Safety Coordinator)

The challenge was settled when Bauman offered to match each bet, dollar for dollar and then donated the entire purse to the top three Bolt Express drivers (based on overall safety ratings).

The event officially ended with Bauman treating everyone, including Sheryl, to a Valentine’s Day lunch.
