Screen Media Films will release the new documentary "Big Rig," with a theatrical release plan that brings the film to truckstops across the nation. The documentary offers a look into the lives of American truck drivers and shows how crucial this industry is to America.

"Big Rig" is an award-winning portrait of modern America as seen through the eyes of long-haul truck drivers, explain the producers -- a documentary is about the people you meet along the way, the struggles they face, and what America would face if the trucking industry shut down.

On June 3, in a non-traditional theatrical release, "Big Rig" will be made available for purchase on DVD and will be played at truckstops during the "Big Rig Summer Tour 2008," presented by Sirius Satellite Radio's Road Dog Trucking Radio, stopping at more than 25 TA/Petro truckstops through the end of August.

"This film is so important for America to see. We didn't want it dying after a two-city run, so we are taking a radical approach to get it out to the masses," said Screen Media Films President Robert Baruc.

"Big Rig" was shot during four two-week periods and was the result of random, documentary-style "casting" of everyday truckers at truckstops from coast to coast.

"Big RIg" enjoyed its world premiere last year at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, and has played at numerous film festivals since, as well as at last month's Mid-America Trucking Show.

According to the film's web site, Desson Thomson of The Washington Post had this to say about the film: "'Big Rig' is a morally immersive embrace of the life of the trucker- not some Hollywood celebration of good 'ol boys on the road. WATCH THIS MOVIE, meet these very real people, and you'll never look at a passing 18-wheeler the same way again."
