ATA Picks Hodges to Fill Chairman Seat
G. Tommy Hodges has been appointed as the new chairman of the American Trucking Associations Board of Directors. The appointment was announced at the association's annual Management Conference & Exhibition this week in Las Vegas.
Hodges, the current chairman of the Tennessee-based Titan Transfer, launched Titan Transfer in late 2000 as a companion to his company Goggin Warehousing, a privately-owned warehousing and distribution services company.
Hodges replaces Charles Whittington of Grammer Industries. Hodges recognized Whittington in his speech to conference attendees, and urged ATA members to ramp up their involvement in the industry. With new regulations affecting the industry, trucking company executives need to be proactive, he said. "We must inform and educate people in the government about our industry and the effect any potential regulation might have on our businesses," he said.
Hodges also stressed the importance of highway reauthorization, and the implications of the prior highway bill expiring. "At ATA, we have built our platform, developed our talking points and are making our case for a substantial improvement of the nation's highway system," said Hodges. "We need everyone to be engaged so that we have the best possible outcome."
As ATA Chairman, Hodges will work closely with the Board of Directors, state trucking executives and ATA members to unite and engage the industry to demonstrate the critical role of trucking.
