Arizona DPS proposes double standard for radar cameras

The head of Arizona’s Department of Public Safety is proposing a double standard when it comes to cars and trucks that are caught speeding by the network of radar cameras that are being put in place statewide.

The law permitting the cameras specifies that violations won’t go on people’s driving records unless they’re doing more than 15 miles an hour over the limit.

But The Associated Press reported that DPS director Roger Vanderpool wants the law changed so that violations – no matter how small – would go on the records of truckers and other CDL holders.

This weekend crews will install speed cameras, closing some highways. The westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 60 will be shut down along a five-mile stretch in Chandler on Saturday night, Oct. 25. Also on Saturday night, westbound I-10 will be closed between State Route 143 (Hohokam Expressway) and I-17 “Split” interchange near Sky Harbor Airport.
