expediteworkshop-louisville.jpg "The response has been phenomenal," says Micki McIntyre, Director of New Business Development for On Time Media and the coordinator of the Expediter Workshops.

"We've been presenting these free-to-the-public-events for three years now and we've been gratified with the turnout we've experienced during that time."

She comments on the upcoming Mid America Trucking Show and the Workshops that will be a major attraction at the Expediter Experience:

"We have a great lineup of speakers for the two days of the Workshops."

expediteworkshop-louisville1.jpg"The Workshops at the Experience are unique because the speakers are at the Experience location after their sessions through the rest of the day and are available to answer questions."

She continues, "The venue for the Workshops this year will be in the closed setting of a distraction-free conference room.  It will be easier to hear and ask questions.  And, the room is convenient to the Expediter Experience area."

McIntyre tells the story of one attendee:

"There was a lady whom I met at the Knoxville event this year.  She happened to have a Dodge 2500 that was outfitted with a fifth wheel to pull a gooseneck trailer.  She wanted to keep that truck running and was looking into obtaining her own authority, etc."

"As I was talking to her, it dawned on me that she represents the type of people who attend the Workshops - serious, professionally-minded folks who are looking for answers about the business.  Of course, her equipment was more suited to hot-shot work than expedited, but still, she is the type of individual that expedited carriers are looking for."

McIntyre says that the Workshop attendees are invariably a serious group of individuals - husbands and wives, single men and women - leased owner-operators who are thinking about becoming fleet owners as well as people who are considering the business for the first time.

"Our audiences are composed of good, astute people who ask intelligent questions.  I'm pleased that we can attract that level of attendees."

"They come in knowing that they are interested in the expedite business and they come in to learn.  We have fun with them too, because I tell them at the outset, there will be no charge for this, there will be no invoice sent to your home.  People are astounded by that - all the information from professionals in the industry - and it's free!"

The speakers

"Our speakers have many collective years of experience that is so beneficial to the attendees.  When these speakers are delivering their information, it "primes" the attendees and gives them ideas for questions."

She says, "The workshops were designed to get factual information to interested people - prospective owner-operators.  We chose the speaker lineup based on people's ability to deliver that information.

"We want the attendees who register and who take the time and effort to attend to walk away with more knowledge about the industry than they came in with.  We want them to use that information to either get in the business or stay away from it.

It's their decision.  We want to make sure it's factual and delivered in a way that is understandable and not boring - we want the audience to have fun with this."

"The Workshops are not just for prospective expediters.  At our most recent event in Knoxville, I would say that one-third of our audience were people already in the business and looking for new business strategies."

She adds, "We take surveys after each Workshop and hands down, from attendees to the sponsoring companies and all, they find the Workshops to be a valuable tool and they want them to continue."
