tri-state.gifThis edition of our Fleet Profile highlights one of the long established leaders of the expedited freight industry, Tri-State Expedited Service, Inc.

Founded in 1978, with headquarters in Millbury, OH, this privately-owned company operates in all 48 states and Canadian provinces. With a current fleet size of over 750 Owner/Operators, Tri-State Expedited transports general commodity freight.

From game towels for the Mets, parts for manufactures, to government contracts, Tri-State delivers to a broad customer base. As an added option for customers, in November, 2001, Tri-State introduced Air Charter Service.

Ranked among the top 100 motor carriers, the company provides door-to-door, coast-to-coast service of time-critical shipments. Whether the freight transported is 1 pound or 40,000 pounds, Tri-State has an on-time delivery record of over 99.6 per cent.

Using the Qualcomm satellite tracking system along with cell phones and pagers, the company maintains direct contact with their Owner/Operator fleet. The vehicles in this fleet range from cargo vans to air-ride straight trucks to tractor-trailers, most with team operations.

Tri-State Expedited Service credits their fleet of independent contractors for the company's success in servicing their customers and sustaining their impressive on-time delivery record.

Equally important to Tri-State is delivering their customer's freight both safely and in a professional manner. Every vehicle in the fleet is inspected every 120 days and their claims rate for cargo damage is the lowest in the industry.

Recent awards from American Trucking Association include 1999 National Safe Fleet Award in 50-100 million miles category, and 2000 ATA National Truck Safety Contest Improvement Award.

With professionalism and service quality being key, Tri-State was the first organization with a perfect ISO 9002 certification audit by A.O.Q.C, and they have maintained that record with each audit since.

Prospective expediting Owner/Operators quite often discover the company through word of mouth from it's satisfied contractors and by the toll-free number on all of the vehicles. Four full-time recruiters evaluate the calls from prospects and after acceptance, these new or even veteran expediters receive training in Tri-State's business methods in a three day orientation.

When asked what qualities Tri-State looks for in a prospective contractor, the company tells us that they are seeking people with a good driving and safety background, good business sense, service availability and a team player. They also feel the hallmarks of a successful Owner/Operator would include good communication abilities and being customer oriented.

For those looking into the expediting industry for the first time, or for those veteran Owner/Operators looking for a change, Tri-State offers an attractive package: Comdata
65% of revenue on all runs
CabCard
Sign-on Bonus for Straight Trucks
Sign-on Bonus for Tractor Trailers
