Does anybody know about the laws in the state of Ohio? All you owners out there...is work accident insurance required in the state of Ohio if drivers are contractors or just if they are employees? Any info is appreciated.

If a person is an "Independant Contractor" they are self employed and would need to pay for Workman's Compensation insurance themselves if they wanted it.

Workman's comp insurance premiums are one of the biggest reasons why companies use IC's / pay under the table, etc.

I carry it for myself (as owner) just to have the certificate as it is required for some of the contracts I have. Owners and officers of a company are not legally required to cover themselves.

I suppose a company could pay (reimburse?) Workman's comp premiums for an IC as part of compensation. But it would be a Workman's comp policy under the IC's name.

workmans comp is required in ohio, but if your driver is contract labor, you can get work accident insurance, same with yourself.work accident is much cheaper thn workmans comp.workmans comp in the trucking industry is about 8.9% of your wages, and the minimum you can claim on yourself is 8.9% of 360 bucks a week,on the contract labor ,it is what ever he makes,no minimum
