Wokmans Comp

In Indiana if you have 0 employees you are not required to have it, but some carriers require it as a condition of lease, which is their right. The O/O and driver have the right not to lease to them. I just don't like them trying to pass it off as a driver benefit. It's pretty expensive when you consider it only covers you under dispatch.

With some carriers you can sign a waver. Chances are the waiver will absolve the carrier and their customer of any responsibility involving injury.

I believe the origional intent was to set up a program to cover work place related accidents. The state set the minimums and the employers paid the premiums. As jobs became scarce and medical costs shot up these programs were watered down. One of the factors determining weather or not a company would move to a state was how much the workmans comp premiums would cost them. The states were already bribing companys with free land and tax breaks and workmens comp was an easy target. It ceased being a workers program and became a management program.
