The cdn expedite scene has taken a downturn for many companies through the month of October. I predicted a few months ago that the market would go up and down during the recovery and that is happening with great effect. While September showed a decent increase in activity and loads were available, October turned into a slow month for many places. I've talked with several o/o from several companies and they are all seeing low load offers this month. There was a flurry of hiring through Sept and a bit during Oct and we're still seeing a lot of transport companies hiring long haul drivers. Definitely the freight for tl and ltl has increased but no so much for expedite except for those fields related to automotive and such. So onto November and hopefully a bit better business.

The weather has been good across the eastern part of the country with mostly rain as opposed to snow. Some snow out west and in Northern Ont and Quebec but otherwise it has been good for running, sleeping and working and it appears the first week of Nov will also be good.

Hopefully Nov proves a decent month otherwise I think we'll see more go out of the expedite end of things.

With the Looney almost par with the US dollar I think you are SOL....US shippers and consignees can us US trucks again as there is no advantage to use Can trucks.....

Well that's been a problem anyways as canadian shippers and importers especially have been doing that for awhile. Part of the reason is there is no GST charged on American cartage bills so a 5% (used to be 7%) savings. Yes they can claim it back but they have to pay it out and also the fact that many US trucking firms already had lower rates than cdn ones. I knew an importer who regularly utilized US trucks to save money. Had to use canuck trucks for local loads and he complained about the difference in rates. But yeah this will again probably send a few over to the US trucks.
