Where to find jobs?

I worked in a shipping office for a time. We were only allowed to use carriers that were contracted with the company. They had insurance requirements, among other things, that an individual driver would not be able to support. Just off the cuff - you need someone to take a chance on working with you. They are putting their product in your care and will want some safeguards. If you don't want to sign on with a carrier, you might be able to find brokers to work with. I think you would probably need to be signed up with several of them. Keep in mind that a broker doesn't really have any vested interest in keeping you busy. If you're in the right place at the right time, for the right price, they'll book you. Being signed on with a carrier takes that headache out of it - you might still work with some brokers if you find yourself emptied out in a dead freight area. A carrier is going to have blocks of business established already and the infrastructure to handle back office items. Whatever path you take - wish you well.
