Out of the two I would suggest the 10,000# cube van or an extended Sprinter 2500. But if you are going to be spending that kind of money on a van, I would suggest buying a C-Unit. You don't need a CDL to drive it and you will make just as much money with a C-Unit as you will with a D-Unit. The C-Unit while being about $20,000.00 more than a cube or sprinter will more than make up for the price difference in load availability. Van freight is scarce, whereas loads for C and D-units make up for the majority of the expedite industry. I would advise against a van for anyone.

If your gonna be over 10,000 pounds i too would suggest a c unit, however i would get one with a gvw around 25,999 no air brakes, and one that can haul 10,000 pounds. If you team you really open up your freight options even with a smaller load capacity and your plates are cheaper,in my state i.l by about 600$ a year and this unit will be around 10,000 or 15,000 cheaper.

I bought a former Penske 15' 2002 GMC Savana cube with the 10,000 GVWR. I put it in service in late September and have been running the wheels off of it. It is a 350 gas and I have been averaging 11.5 mpg. It's 92" wide so I can get a total of 6 45w X 48l skids and still have room for an air mattress. My company pays me cube rate which is 30 cents more per mile than a van. Lots of opportunities for the lightweight bulky freight. Payload is roughly 3200#.
