What is going on W/Conway?

Maybe a taboo subject "BUT" I have been pro Conway in the past and my curiosity gets the better of me. Requiring new DOT#s on contractors trucks is the latest I have heard, does this mean change of ownership?
If so who has the bank to finance such an aquisition? UPS or maybe Yellow? UPS makes sense and maybe it would explain some of the recently announced changes at FECC. I am not trying to start a rumor but what I have heard has been told to me by sources I deem credible. I have been out of the loop a couple of days (west to east run) and have had tooo much time to think and no opportunity to check the forum.
Anyone heard anything? Should I change my name to Captain Chaos?

They have changed their name. The stock holders approved it just recently. There is an article on E/0 home page telling about it Go to the In the News section and click on more news.

You are right Ace! I found it interesting though that when I go to the Conway Now website under the Conway family of companies I found 2 new entries
Conway Racing and Menlo. I may just be paranoid but Menlo is an international freight forwarder (airfreight) correct me if I am wrong but didn't Ups purchase that brand from Conway 1 1/2 years ago? Or was it just a portion of the Menlo brand?

Well I think that cnf has changed their name to conway we will be getting new stickers ..wel are probably to become a bigger part of the total logistics of the cnf family where as we were a little offshoot kind of doi'n our own thing .. fed ex has done somthing similar.. I dont know what this means, it seems that we are on the fuel surcharge matrix that the other cnf peeps are ...I hae personally taken loads from the terminals that were not transfers, but I have been slaying yellow frieght terminal loads lately also.. so I dont know ? How are we to be treated ? we are not subject to the same benifits of the non pbo's insurance, etc. They are not comong of to much info .. better loads.

CNF the parent company has changed its name to Con-Way Inc. Under the Con-Way Inc. umbrella are Con-Way Freight, Menlo Logistics and Con-Way Transportation. Con-Way Now is part of the latter, and will be called Con-Way Expedite. When CF bought Emery Air it was combined with Menlo. Emery had an expedite unit called Emery Expedite. Some of that was sold to UPS. I believe that Menlo is logistics and freight forwarding. Air freight is handled by Con-Way Air which is part of Con-Way Transportion.

Nothing should change at Con-Way Now except the name and I.C.C. numbers and new tires on my van.

CON-WAY NOW IS NOW CON-WAY EXPEDITE. NOW, NOW.

I think the name change better reflects on what the company is and does. The NOW was a bit vague. Around my house when I received a call for a load my family would ask where I was going, not when. They knew the answer was NOW! My former colleagues at Con-Way Freight won't be calling Mr. Now anymore. How does DR. X sound

That's all For NOW

I was looking at the Conway Expedite web site to learn more about this. I see similarities between their reorganization and FedEx's (Surface Expedite Network). The new expedite truck logo is very nice. I like the stripe across the bottom of the box. It ties the whole truck together and creates a sleek image, I think.

HI

I think everybody in the industry is trying to evolve.3PL and satelite communications have completely changed the industry. The shippers want a one call does all type 3PL company so the 3PL's are looking for diversified carriers. They want to bundle flat bed, reefer, and dry box into one carrier. They also need to combine air, ocean, and rail with road carriers. The are also looking for custom brokerages.UPS and CNF joining forces would accomplish all of this.

UPS bought TransBorder and Starber Fritz so theres the brokers.UPS already has aiport access and regional road carriers.CNF has the rail, ocean and otr access.

EGL bought Circle Int'l Brokerage.DHL bought Deringer.FEDEX bought Tower Int'l.The way my luck goes Panther will buy Livingston or Affiliated.
