I'll pass on the snow. There's enough of that in parts of Texas. Texas is excellent, the best of the best. Texas wins over other places because it has beaches, mountains, prairies, forests, deserts.. anything you could possibly want.

Ok..you got me with the beaches..South Dakota is a bit shy with those...and I sure do miss the ocean. Lived in Maryland for a long time and loved to swim in the waves along the east coast. But you know what comes with the east coast...all those liberals...:p

Being from Texas and living in Baltimore is a major culture shock. I have never in my life seen so many people walking around looking down. Must be trying to avoid the cracks in the sidewalks. Gotta say it, the most unfriendly and most rude people I have ever been around. I have been around the world twice in my lifes journey, this is on the bottom of the list.

No place like Texas.

Tell me about it..when I first moved to Maryland and was in sales and had customer's in DC..I'd walk down the streets meeting everyone in the eye and saying Howdy! Most of them told this country bumpkin hello right back..*l*

Looking back it was a good thing I wasn't mugged!

Are you from Texas too?

Austin, my family has roots that go back to the Alamo. Stephen F. Austin was a cousin of a great great (don't remember how many greats) uncle who was also the 1st attorney to be appointed to try a case before the US Supreme court and never went to law school. Because of him our family has ranches all over Texas. Back then fees were often paid with land. So we own the land and the mineral rights which has been kind of nice at times.

One of the ranches we own is on the Frio river in Leaky that has a cemetery that has graves that date back to settlers killed in Comanchie raids and civil war vets.

I've been told, but haven't verified, that that particular ranch was from the land promise made by Houston for serving in the army for Independence from Mexico. I don't know who that was.
