Steve, welcome! Now the bad news: no one can answer your questions, based on the info you've included. A one ton cargo van is a start, but what year? Because you will need to sign on with a carrier, unless you get your own authority, and all carriers have specific limits on the age of your vehicle, usually about six years is the limit. Some won't permit vans with side windows. To do the job properly, and secure the freight, you need etrack on the floor at least, and various straps, load bars, etc. Your van must also be DOT inspected, which requires a fire extinguisher of the proper kind, mounted within the driver's reach, and other rules, as well.
You have a "good driving record" but do you have a CDL? Do you have a clean background?
There are so many unanswered questions, that all I can say is: read the questions & answers here, on most of the forums, for as far back as it takes to learn what you want to know - then you'll be ready to contact a carrier, and you'll know what to ask when you do.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but the questions you ask require some research on your part - but the good news is: it's all here, somewhere!
PS I drive a cargo van, so if you have a specific van question, you can pm (private msg - just click on the paper & pencil icon near my name to send a pm) any questions, and I'll reply to the best of my knowledge. Happy researching!
